Privacy Policy — VaultDream

1. Who this policy covers

This policy explains how the VaultDream mobile app (“VaultDream,” “the app,” “we,” “us”) handles your information. It applies to the app on Android and iOS. It does not cover any third-party app or service you might choose to send an exported file to (see Section 7).

2. Our privacy-first approach

No account, no tracking — every dream is stored only on this device. The one exception is voice dictation, off by default, which you can turn on in Settings.

• No account. You don’t register, provide an email, or log in.
• No tracking. We do not use analytics, advertising, crash reporting, cookies, tracking pixels, or any third-party SDKs that collect data about you.
• Your journal stays on your device. Your dream entries, titles, tags, characters, dates, ratings and everything else you write are never uploaded or sent anywhere by the app.
• One optional exception. If you turn on Cloud dictation in Settings, an audio recording you make in the dream editor is sent to be converted to text and then discarded. Nothing else is sent, and the setting is off unless you turn it on. Section 5 describes exactly what happens.

3. Information we do not collect

We do not collect, receive, or store: your name, email, phone number, location, contacts, device identifiers, usage/analytics data, or the contents of your journal. There is no account and no profile, so nothing you write is associated with you, and we have no ability to see, access, or recover it.

The only thing that can leave your device is an audio recording you make with Cloud dictation switched on, described in Section 5. No name, account, user ID or device identifier is attached to it, we do not store it, and it is never any part of your journal text.

4. Information you create, and where it lives

When you use VaultDream you may create journal data such as: dream titles and descriptions, dates, emotions, “lucid” and “nightmare” markers, quality/clarity ratings, and any tags, characters, locations, and categories you add. You may also set preferences such as theme, language, and privacy options.

All of this is stored locally on your device only, in the app’s private storage (a local database plus on-device app settings). It is not backed up to us or to any cloud by the app. If you uninstall the app or clear its data without first making your own export, that information is permanently gone — we cannot restore it for you.

5. Voice dictation (optional, off by default)

VaultDream can turn speech into text in the dream editor. There are two ways it does this, and they are very different.

On-device dictation (the default). Your phone’s own speech recogniser transcribes what you say. The audio never leaves your device, and VaultDream requests on-device recognition specifically — if your device cannot transcribe offline, dictation is refused rather than quietly sent elsewhere.

Cloud dictation (only if you turn it on). If you enable Cloud dictation in Settings, a recording made in the dream editor is sent to VaultDream’s transcription service, which uses Google Cloud Speech-to-Text to convert it to text. The text is returned to your device and the recording is deleted.

When cloud dictation is on:

• What is sent: the audio recording only, plus the language you are writing in. Your dream text, title, tags, characters, dates, ratings and everything else in your journal are never sent. There is no account, user ID or device identifier attached to the recording.
• How long we keep it: we do not store it. The recording is held in memory for the length of one request and discarded. We do not log audio or transcripts.
• How long Google keeps it: it does not. Google Cloud Speech-to-Text does not log audio or transcripts unless a customer opts in to its data-logging programme, which we have not and will not. Data from customers who have not opted in is not stored or used for anything other than serving the request.
• Length limit: recordings are capped at one minute per field.
• Turning it off: switch Cloud dictation off in Settings. Nothing is sent from then on. It is off unless you turn it on.

Your keyboard’s own microphone is separate from both of these. If you dictate using the keyboard’s mic, that is handled by your keyboard app under its own privacy policy, and VaultDream has no part in it.

6. Device permissions the app uses

VaultDream keeps permissions minimal:

• Microphone (optional) — requested only when you start dictation in the dream editor, and used only while you are dictating. The app does not record in the background. What happens to the recording depends on which dictation mode is in use — see Section 5.
• Files / sharing — used only when you export, back up, or restore a journal file, so the app can save or open a file you select.
• App lock (optional) — you may set a PIN to unlock the app. The PIN is not stored. Only a salted hash of it is kept, in your device’s OS-provided secure storage (Android Keystore / iOS Keychain), and it is never transmitted. If you forget it, we cannot recover or reset it for you.
• Screen privacy (Android) — an optional setting can hide the app in the recent-apps switcher and block screenshots/screen recording. This is a local, on-device protection.

VaultDream does not need a network connection to store or view your dreams. The only feature that uses one is cloud dictation, and only if you turn it on.

7. Exporting and backing up your dreams — your responsibility

VaultDream lets you export or back up your entire journal to a file (in a standard, human-readable JSON format) and later restore it. This is provided so you stay in full control of your own data.

Please read this carefully:

• Exported files are NOT encrypted. They contain your dream entries in plain, readable text.
• Once you export, back up, or share such a file, it leaves the app’s protected on-device storage, and you are solely responsible for it — including where you save it, who you share it with, and keeping it secure.
• If you send an exported file to cloud storage, email, a messaging app, or any other service, that data becomes subject to that service’s privacy and security practices, which are outside our control.
• We recommend only saving exports to locations you trust, not sharing them over insecure channels, and deleting copies you no longer need.

You choose whether to export and where the file goes; the app never does this automatically or in the background.

8. Data security

Your journal is stored in the app’s private, sandboxed storage on your device, and the app never transmits it. The overall security of that data also depends on your device — for example, your device’s screen lock and encryption. Because exported files are unencrypted (Section 7), the security of any export you create is up to you.

If you turn cloud dictation on, the recording sent for transcription is held in memory for the length of one request and is not written to disk on our side; we keep no audio and no transcripts (Section 5).

No method of electronic storage or transmission is ever 100% secure, but by keeping your journal local and offline, VaultDream minimizes exposure.

9. Third-party services

VaultDream contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or data-collection services. Third parties become involved only at your initiative, in two cases:

• Google Cloud Speech-to-Text — if you turn on Cloud dictation, our transcription service uses Google Cloud Speech-to-Text to convert your recording to text, as described in Section 5. Google acts as our processor for that request and does not log the audio or the transcript, because we have not opted in to its data-logging programme.
• Any app or service you send an export to — for example when you use your device’s share sheet. Data handled that way is governed by that third party’s own privacy policy, not this one.

10. Children’s privacy

VaultDream has no account system and collects no personal information from anyone, including children. Nothing is transmitted to us unless cloud dictation is switched on, and what is sent then is an audio recording with no identifying information attached to it, which we do not keep (Section 5).

11. Your control over your data

You are always in control:

• View and edit any entry at any time within the app.
• Delete individual dreams, or erase your entire journal, from within the app.
• Export a full copy of your data whenever you like.
• Turn Cloud dictation on or off at any time in Settings. With it off, no recording leaves your device.

Since we hold nothing — your journal never reaches us, and a dictation recording is discarded as soon as it has been transcribed — there is nothing for you to request from us and nothing for us to delete on our end.

12. Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at https://zerojumpapps.com/legal/vaultdream/privacy/. Material changes will be reflected in the app or on our website.

14. Governing law

Zero Jump Apps, LLC is established in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, United States. This policy is governed by the law of Puerto Rico and applicable United States federal law. If you are a resident of Puerto Rico, you may raise a consumer complaint with the Puerto Rico Department of Consumer Affairs (Departamento de Asuntos del Consumidor, DACO). Because we retain nothing from the app — your journal never reaches us, and dictation recordings are discarded once transcribed — there is no personal information on our side that such a complaint could concern.
