Data Deletion — HeatZone

LAST UPDATED · 27 SEPTEMBER 2026

Option 1. Remove the pin you have live

Use this to take your pin off the map and carry on using the app as before.

  1. Open HeatZone.
  2. Tap “My pin” in the bottom navigation bar.
  3. Tap “Remove pin”.
  4. On the “Remove your pin?” card, tap “Remove”.

The pin disappears from the map straight away, for everyone. You can drop a new one whenever you like. You can only ever have one live pin, so this removes all of them.

If the My pin tab says “No pin live right now”, you have no pin on the map and there is nothing to remove.

Option 2. Delete everything

Use this to remove your pins and also erase everything HeatZone has stored about this copy of the app.

  1. Open HeatZone.
  2. Tap “Settings” in the bottom navigation bar.
  3. Under “Your data”, tap “Delete my data”.
  4. On the “Delete everything?” dialog, tap “Delete”.

This cannot be undone. It does all of the following, in this order:

  1. deletes every pin you have live, so it leaves the map immediately,
  2. clears the app’s local cache of pins and heat,
  3. clears the ownership tokens stored on your device,
  4. deletes the anonymous id the app was using,
  5. forgets the areas you asked to be notified about, and stops checking on them.

The app’s copy of court and field locations is kept. It is public OpenStreetMap data about places, not about you.

Each step runs even if an earlier one failed, so a poor connection cannot leave the deletion half done. The app keeps working afterwards: the next time it needs one, it is issued a new anonymous id with no connection to the old one.

You need an internet connection for the pins to be removed from the map. If you are offline, connect and try again, or simply wait: the pin expires on its own.

What is deleted, and what is kept for a short time

Deleted immediately:

  • Your live pins, from the public map and from the database.
  • Everything HeatZone stored on your device.
  • Your anonymous id (Option 2 only).

Kept briefly, then deleted automatically:

  • Ownership records. A server-side record that links a pin to the anonymous id that created it, so that only its creator could remove or extend it. No app or user can read it. Deleted automatically 30 days after it was created.
  • Report records. If you reported someone else’s pin, a record of that report. No app or user can read it. Deleted automatically after 30 days.
  • Rate-limit counters. Timestamps of recent pin creations and map requests, used to enforce the hourly limits. They cover a rolling one-hour window.

Once the anonymous id has been deleted, these remaining records refer to an id that no longer exists and that was never linked to your name, email, phone number or Google account.

Not held by us at all: advertising data. The banner ad is served by Google AdMob using your device’s advertising ID, which HeatZone never receives. You can reset or delete that ID in Android under Settings > Google > Ads (on some devices, Settings > Privacy > Ads).

Also not held by us: the “Remove ads” purchase, if you made one. It belongs to your Google account and the record of it is Google Play’s. “Delete my data” does not remove it and cannot: if you reinstall HeatZone signed in to the same Google account, the advertising stays off. We hold no record of who has bought it. To see or manage the purchase, open Google Play > Payments and subscriptions > Budget and history.

If you no longer have the app or the phone

You do not need to do anything. A pin cannot outlive its timer, so any pin you left behind is deleted within at most three hours of when you dropped it, and the records above follow within 30 days.

Uninstalling the app, clearing its data or changing phones removes what was stored on the device, but it also removes your ability to delete a live pin early, because the proof that a pin is yours is kept only on that device. The pin still expires on schedule.

We cannot delete a specific person’s data on request, and this is by design rather than policy: pins carry no name, no account and no device identifier, so there is nothing that would let us, or anyone else, tell which pins were yours. The steps above are the complete mechanism. If something is not working, or you have a question about any of this, write to us and we will help.
